Excavating Earth, Material Refined

Excavating Earth, Material Refined

We seek the things that fulfill us. Sometimes these things are terrifying, we journey around the edges of  existence while excavating the lands on which we were created, in order to live the wild life ... to create.

Refining the material by hand, rigorously, carefully, meticulously... alchemically. Working daily to achieve perfection. To achieve darling, darling perfection. And we wonder, does anyone even care. Can't they see us?

The work that goes into the art and alchemy of digging the earth, with immense heat rearranging its properties so that it becomes molten.... metal, baby.

Flux so that it flows, carbon rods to remove any impurities, vacuum pressure... flame retardant gloves, investment material on your smock and Officine Creative boots that you've worn nearly everyday for the past 4 or 5 years.

So you pour the metal in the cavity.

You let it fill (and fill you , too) and you breathe the great breath of a divine release.

The poetry of this alchemy has become, over the years a great obsession. Not just for XENOPHORA and the objects we (myself and my growing tribe) make, this obsession for the craft bleeds over onto the realm of manfuacturing for a world of other designers, brands and artists that seek this alchemy. The whole of this world needs a sustainable manufacturing partner and design house that lives for this kind of craftsmanship to increase the  rate of return on their investment.

But it's more than jewelry. It's alchemical transmutation from the thoughts and ideas, the representation, the I've got to get this out of my head and the I must put this into the ether, the world and onto bodies. It's the physical transmutation of 3D printing complex geometries created digitally into the shape of a hand or in the typography of a tear, washing and curing, then casting that into precious metal. That is, alchemy as we know it. But what about the transmutation of the self? I, for one, will never be the same and remain forever changed. From lead into gold.

And you wonder, can they even see you? These are the Tears of Possibility and Hope that we shed as we shed tears like layers of skin. Go girl, hold on to your poetry,   The universe doesn't give us things that we can't handle. So create, and let your worlds unfurl.

XENOPHORA's sister company, Casting de Khrysopoeia, is Detroit's only full-service, experiential jewelry manufacturing facility and design-house creates jewelry for other jewelry brands from concept to creation. Casting de Khrysopoeia had the opportunity to manufacture jewelry for the brand, Detroit Is The New Black among many other brands that we've had the pleasure of working with.
